Been a while since I’ve done one of these. This is Foo Fighters’ sixth album, ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ and I think it is easily their best. I wholly accept that I am view is biased due to the extreme nostalgia I get from this album, it’s like mega déjà vu every time I listen to it and I go right back to the time when I first heard it. This is probably because it came out on the same day that I started university (incidentally, Wasting Light came out the same week I finished) and I felt full of hope for how good things were going to be for me from then on. Okay, so they turned out to be lousy, but this album always takes me back to the anticipation for everything that was in store for me, and that short time when I truly believed that things were going to get better. With regards to the actual music, I love quiet/loud dynamic which seems to encompass both discs of the Foos’ previous album, In Your Honour. Some of these songs seem so gentle and fragile (Stranger Things Have Happened and Summer’s End sound as though they might fall apart at any minute) but there’s still a couple of belters in there for good measure. It’s just a great listen from start to finish, and while I appreciate their earlier work, with particular regard to In Your Honour for getting me into them, and I love what they’ve done with Wasting Light, I keep on coming back to Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace for everything it means to me, and because it’s just a fantastic album.

1,000 years from now there will be no guys and no girls, just wankers.

This just about sums up how I feel most of the time.
